Haiti - 03/2010

Of the 27 earthquakes in the first four months of the year, the most devastating one happened on January 12th near Léogâne, Haiti, west of Port-au-Prince. The death toll of 230,000 people is staggering.

South of Léogâne, I spent two weeks on the southern coast in Jacmel, clearing rubble from a couple of schools alongside Shelters International Disaster Response. You can read my on-the-ground reports here. It was a humbling and rewarding experience.

I am grateful for the help of Burners Without Borders in facilitating my opportunity to help the people of Haiti, and I am especially thankful for the 33 people who donated over $2200 in order to help me get to Haiti, as well as offer a sizable donation that would go towards feeding the Haitian volunteers at Shelters International for a month.
